Moscow
Hospitality Industry

Welcome to LodgingGuide's hospitality industry listings for the Moscow, Russian Federation area.

Long symbolizing spiritual and political power, Moscow -- on, then off, then back on as a capital, has never ceased to serve as the heart and soul of Russia, spanning two continents over 11 time zones. For business and leisure travel, Moscow as a destination has become easier to reach. Domodedovo Airport, spiffing up and growing faster than already overloaded Sheremetevo-2 Airport, has a children's play area, bars for jazz and juice, and can alert passengers on flight status with cell phone text messages. To bolster lodging options, entrepreneurs are converting homes or floors of apartment buildings into modest hotel rooms. At the high end, Moscow's Savoy, renovated in late 2005, now has Italian furnishings, hydro-massage baths and wi-fi. Moscow’s Courtyard by Marriott opened in 2005, adding 218 rooms in the Tverskaya neighborhood near the Kremlin, with a 24-hour restaurant, health club, and high-speed Internet and wi-fi in all rooms. Among Moscow attractions is the legendary Bolshoi Theater (closed for revamp, likely through 2007), with the Bolshoi Ballet and Opera Company in the interim on nearby stages. Moscow festivals include the Cherry Orchard Arts Festival, Easter Arts Festival, and Russian Winter Festival. Although fines are modest and enforcement is spotty, law now forbids alcohol on streets, making it advisable to imbibe at sidewalk cafes or on terraces. Moscow’s metro stations double as a magnificent museum, with stations in the city center embellished with chandeliers, sculptures, stained-glass, mosaics, and assorted marbles. Cash is king in Moscow, but credit cards are becoming more accepted, and ATMs are widely available, if not around every corner.
